Wardenclyffe Tower (1901– 1917), otherwise called the Tesla Tower, was an ancient but novel exploratory remote transmission station that was envisioned and established by Nikola Tesla in New York between 1901 and 1902. Tesla’s prime intent was to put on the air telephony, messages and facsimile images to England across the Atlantic Ocean and to Tesla's early design for Wardenclyffe had two adjacent towers, one being the main Tesla Coil, and the second one being a giant un-grounded sphere of the same size. Lightning bolts were supposed to jump continuously between them. Loud! Atop his tower was perched a fifty-five ton dome of conductive metals, and beneath it stretched an iron root system that penetrated more than 300 feet into the Earth’s crust.

Tesla entered the twentieth century in triumph, at the peak of his career. And from that summit he wanted to realize the greatest of all his inventions— the Wardenclyffe Tower, the centre of a futuristic global telecommunication system.

Its mission is the preservation and adaptive reuse of Wardenclyffe, the century- old laboratory of electrical pioneer Nikola Tesla located in Shoreham, Long Island

Tesla based the Wardenclyffe towers design on his discoveries at his makeshift laboratory at Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs. He rigged his equipment with the intent to produce the first lightning-scale electrical discharges ever accomplished by mankind, a feat which would allow him to test many of his theories about the conductivity of the Earth and the sky.

With funding from JP Morgan, Tesla designed and built Wardenclyffe Tower, a gigantic wireless transmission station, in New York in 1901-1902. Morgan thought the Wardenclyffe Tower could provide wireless communication across the world. However, Tesla had other plans.

It held a 67 1/2 foot diameter ball on top and appeared to be a giant mushroom. Begun in 1901, the tower was nearly completed in 1903 when J.P. Morgan withdrew his financial support.

With its lattice-style structural supports and bulbous top, it bears a distinct resemblance to Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower (or Tesla Tower), an ill-fated power project envisioned by the famous physicist-engineer in the early 20th century. They were explosive charges detonated to destroy Nikola Tesla's tower at Wardenclyffe.
